Even though we have our system down to a science and have an extremely skilled team, sometimes the board just doesn't fully cooperate. Even though this board is completely structurally sound, we don't like for the glue joints to be as visible. In Maple it is a little less noticeable, and in Walnut it tends to stand out a little more. Either way, our goal is tighter glue joints, so we gave this one a discount since it isn't perfect.
This board also has several wind checks. A wind check is an internal fracture or separation that runs along the tree's annual growth rings, caused by severe wind stress on a living tree. They are characteristic because the checking is perfectly perpendicular to the annulary rays in the wood grain. Those checks exist at a microscopic level throughout all hard maple, but sometimes become visible. Occasionally they will close with heavy oiling. You don't need to worry about the safety of the board because end grain maple is naturally anti-microbial. But we've heavily discounted this one since there are several Checks.
Feet will NOT come standard on this board, but if you order a set we will be happy to install them for you.
You can also order finger grooves, a juice groove and/or engraving at checkout.
Maple cutting boards need a lot of oil, so please don't forget to add a care kit! All cutting boards need to be oiled to full saturation, but especially maple!
